Orbit – the sexy looking drone!

Orbit by Skye Intelligence is a sexy looking drone!

We got the buzz on it at from David Sliwa at InterDrone. Here’s what we found out –

Sleek, black, low and round – the Orbit drone stands out from the box like shape of many drones in the market. Apple like in feel, it stands out for the right reasons.

It is futuristic in appearance and functionality and is intuitive in a number of ways. If you hold your hand over it it turns on!

Orbit

David got his hands on the Orbit at InterDrone

The Orbit produces 16 MP photographs and 1080p video.

Pretty lightweight; the drone including battery weighs 2.8lb. Battery life is up to 28 minutes and the battery takes around two hours to charge.

The drone boasts a sophisticated auto follow function, with a hyper accurate GPS and the ability to learn and predict manoeuvres.

Orbit

The Orbit’s patented tracking system

By wearing the Orbit Tracker – a subtle arm band similar to those used by runners – the drone will track you, to the extent that you can put your phone away and it will follow you. Using this is very simple – you put on the Tracker, frame yourself in the app and click OK – that’s it!

Conceived and designed as an entry level drone for those new to flying, the Orbit allows you to easily edit pictures and videos while flying – even applying cool Instagram like filters and a diverse array of musical tracks. We think this could be used to great effect while attending events.

The drone flies using your phone as a remote control. It is controlled via the SKYE app.

We managed to get our hands on one and will be putting it to the test soon. Stay tuned for a review.

A Kickstarter project, the Skye Intelligence Orbit exceeded its $200,000 goal in 45 days.  It will be available soon and will retail at $799.

Whether you want to get into flying commercially or just for fun, this industry is something that is bound to grow with you! We’ve seen this expand from just a bunch of hobbyists actually building these quadcopters to the very popular
DJI Phantom which comes ready to fly out of the box and you can attach your GoPro to. There are so many options out there so what is the best mini quadcopter with camera for you? Well that is a difficult question because at the moment there aren’t that many ready to fly quadcopters with a camera included.

What we wanted to do was give you a list of 3 of the best micro quadcopters with cameras on the market right now. Any one of the micro quadcopers with camera below come out of the box and ready to fly. They include everything you need to successfully fly and record your flight! We’ll list the best prices at the bottom of this page.

#3 UDI U818A ~$50 Ready to Fly

UDI U818a Drone

Purchase HERE

This is a well tested larger micro quadcopter with camera that is available on the market at this time. It has a fairly decent little camera although you should update the MicroSD card as the 1gig card fills up pretty quick. The remote is great, it feels comfortable in hand and has digital trim settings and a digital readout showing throttle setting, remote battery life, trim settings, camera settings, etc, it also has the 360 inversion button you can tap to make the quad do flips, be sure to have some altitude before doing this a be ready to hit the throttle again to keep the quad from hitting the ground, you can also use the top left button for this, press it and when it starts beeping you can tap you rudder controls up, down, left, or right ta make it flip in the direction you like, this is a little more fun than just the 360 inversion. The battery only lasts about 7-10 minutes. So best to buy extras.

For the price, it is a simple and dependable quadcopter that’s easy enough for beginners to pick up. If you’re looking for a micro quadcopter with camera with a number of cool features, then the UDI is a great micro quadcopter is a solid, but not our favorite choice out there. See the rankings below for better options for the best micro quadcopters with camera.

#2 Micro Drone 2.0 with Camera ~$130 Ready to Fly

Purchase HERE

The build quality of the Micro Drone 2.0 is great, especially considering the price point. Since this is a relatively less known brand we are happy to say that it does great! Most of the parts are replaceable and the device charges off a USB port on your computer in around an hour. You’ll need 4 AA batteries for the controller and they’ll last a fair few flights.

It’s easy to pick up: you plug the battery in, turn the remote on and push the thrust slowly forward and then back. The range is excellent and you can easily send the micro quadcopter with camera flying over 300′ into the sky. Flick the stunt switch to stunt mode and you can perform a range of flips and acrobatic maneuvers. The camera attaches to the base of the Micro Drone with the supplied double sided tape and then plugs into its main board.

The camera module kit comes with a 1GB MicroSD card, card reader, some screws and even a screwdriver. The camera itself seems decent enough build-wise for the price and I’m impressed with the quality of the footage. Overall this is a great little quadcopter with camera and we would recommend you try it if you don’t decide to go with our number 1 pick.

#1 Hubsan X4 H107C HD ~$90 Ready to Fly – On Sale HERE

Purchase HERE

This Hubsan X4 H107C HD is a bulletproof mini copter and one that we personally love and the most cost effective starter micro quadcopter with camera on the market today. It will take plenty of damage and keep on ticking which is why we love it! The battery lasts about 7-10 minutes depending on which battery you have in there and has a range of a couple hundred feet. This micro quadcopter with camera is recommended for beginners as well as advanced fliers as it is fairly easy to learn on and super fun to fly. Onboard 2MP camera is quite good for what it is although the video can be a bit jumpy which is due to the fixed position. All the micro quadcopters with camera in this list will Still very good video for the camera. Just so you know – 7min of video eats about 900MB so plan the microSD card you want to use accordingly. We would recommend going larger rather than smaller. Whether you want to fly it inside or outside it will do well for any type of environment. You can find a great video of what a recorded flight looks like
here.

6 Advanced Drones for Aerial Videography

I am glad to publish the following guest post by UAV Coach founder Alan Perlman.

####

aerial_photo

When it comes to aerial videography, the sky’s the limit in terms of drone options. Most major drone manufacturers have a model that caters to the aerial videography industry.

If you’ve been shooting around with entry quadcopters and find that you need to take the next step, we have six great options here for you to review. While this is by no means an all-inclusive list, it stands as a great introduction to the spectrum of options available.

Yuneec Typhoon H

Recently available for preorder, Yuneec’s Typhoon H is in hot competition with DJI’s newest release of the Phantom 4. The Typhoon H boasts a 3-axis, 360-degree gimbal for its CGO3+ camera. The landing gear is retractable, allowing for completely unobstructed panning. The camera films in 4K and takes 12 megapixel stills.

The Android-based controller’s 7-inch screen has HD 720p real-time video reception and its HDMI output can be used for VR goggles or external monitors.

It is also compatible with ST12 and Wizard controllers to allow for Team Mode where one user can operate the drone and the other can operate the camera.

DJI Phantom 3 Professional

This is a tried a true camera drone from DJI. With the recent release of the Phantom 4, there has been a nice drop in price that makes this a more budget-friendly option.

The Phantom 3 Professional has a 3-axis gimbal, films in 4K, captures 12 megapixel photographs, and live streams in HD. There are 5 modes for autonomous flight, allowing the pilot to focus on the camera; Follow Me, Course Lock, Waypoints, Home Lock, and Point of Interest.

These modes also assist in aerial mapping and 3D modeling.

DJI Phantom 4

The latest release from DJI’s very popular Phantom line is the newest shiny toy on the market. On a 3-axis gimbal, the camera films in 4K at 30fps as well as full HD 1080p at 120fps. It has a 94-degree field of view and a one-meter hyperfocal length.

In regards to post production, the Phantom 4 offers 10 color profiles and Adobe DNG RAW support. A few interesting flight modes include ActiveTrack which uses object recognition technology to recognize your subject and follow them while keeping them in the frame, Sport mode which increases flight speed up to 45mph, and Atti which maintains altitude and level without satellite position for smooth film-making.

DJI Inspire 1

Another option from DJI, the Inspire 1 films in 4Kp30 or 1080p60 with full 360-degree rotation.

The remote, with integrated HD video downlink, has dedicated buttons to make it easier to capture photos and videos, tilt the gimbal, and adjust camera settings. The Dual Operator Control allows the pilot to control the flight while a second controller operates the camera’s direction and gimbal.

GoPro Karma

While still wrapped in secret, the GoPro Karma appears to be creeping toward a release date near the end of 2016. We don’t have any specifics, but from the promotional material we can see that it most certainly will have 4K video features and some degree of ‘Follow Me’ functionality.

It’s speculated that the drone may not come with a built-in camera and will merely allow the operator to affix cameras from the company’s growing line, which would make sense. Given some of GoPro’s other realms of focus, including virtual reality and 360-degree video, this will certainly be one to watch when the specifics become concrete.

DJI Spreading Wings S900

If you are in need of a heavy-duty multirotor capable of carrying some serious gear or flying in extreme environments, the DJI Spreading Wings S900 might be the UAV for you.

With a light, flexible build and folding arms, the S900 is easy to transport, yet packs enough lift and maneuverability to trust your precious videography in less than desirable flight environments.

It also packs an especially low gimbal that allows for a wide range of shooting angles.

These are some of the best multirotors for aerial videography. But if you’re just getting started, you will want to practice your skills with something smaller and cheaper (like the Syma X5C). What do you fly (or want to fly)? Let me know in the comments below.

Drones Being Used for Search and Rescue

Drones Being Used for Search and Rescue

We know that everyone likes drones because they just make difficult tasks look very simple to us. By controlling them either remotely or automatically with the use of sophisticated computer programs, these unmanned aircrafts can carry out actions effortlessly well. And they are here to stay for good. Drones have the capacity to carry out various tasks from taking photoshoots to covering events, spying, collecting data, detecting objects, lifting objects, and much more. Do you know that drones can conduct a search and rescue operation? Yes, they can! They can search for missing people and rescues them. People in distress or disastrous locations are rescued with the use of drones.

These flying robots have limitless advantages when it comes to saving lives. They can search for people who are displaced maybe due to flood, earthquakes, hurricane and other natural disasters. Through their inbuilt cameras and sensors, they can detect people, monitor weather, or perform reconnaissance. Drones are used for finding people lost in the woods or mountains. Life jackets can be delivered to people stranded in rocks or sea. Drones are also used in accident scenes to find victims. During emergencies, drones are the fastest and effective device used for rescue missions.

According to a full-scale test exercise carried out by AltiGator in order to test the effectiveness of their drones in carrying out rescue missions, the result showed that drones can work for 24 hours and were in top speed in searching and rescuing people after an earthquake. Drones are sent to affected areas to get feeds; through these feeds, ground search and rescue teams can take decisions based on the feedbacks provided by drones. Drones are capable of taking map photos and video coverage at interval. They are easy to run and don’t make noise or interrupt search and rescue operations. These flying machines are cheaper, safer and effective when it comes to performing search and rescue operations.

S.W.A.R.M is a worldwide search and rescue volunteer network that outlines many benefits of drones in search and rescue operations. Finding and rescuing lost persons is demanding and costly, but with the introduction drones, thorough area search is carried out and an extreme area survey is done. Drones have the capacity to look down and scan areas with the use of high-resolution video camera. Do you know that drones can search wide areas in one minute but would take hours for ground search and rescue teams to cover that exact area? Videos or feeds taken by drones give analysts more insight into a confounding situation.

Drones are also used for carrying items such as food, water, clothing, medical supplies, and communication device to stranded people. S.W.A.R.M acknowledges the usefulness of drones and they have been able to improve different areas most especially the search and rescue team. Application of drones have greatly improved the techniques and ways used in finding victims. Failure of search and rescue missions has been greatly reduced to a minimum level since the discovery of drones. All in all, drones can help the world in many diverse ways.

Draganfly Innovations Receives Permission to Test ADS-B Communications Technology

GCSwithADSB

Draganfly is the first Canadian company to receive permission for low power ADS-B Transceiver testing.

Saskatoon SK, and Venice, CA – Draganfly Innovations Inc. continues to lead the UAS industry by receiving permission to test an integrated command-and-control system that utilizes automatic dependent surveillance broadcast (ADS-B) avionics with their UAV. Draganfly is the first UAV manufacturer in Canada to receive this approval and will be testing in both Class G and Class D airspace with approval from governing authorities.

ADS-B is a surveillance technology that allows aircraft to determine positioning via satellite navigation, and simultaneously broadcasting that same position, enabling them to be tracked. This information can be received by air traffic control ground stations, similar to RADAR technology that’s in use today. ADS-B addresses safety concerns relating to UAVs sharing airspace with traditional aircraft. The system is capable of real-time traffic and weather updates in 3D trajectories and can be customized based on specific missions and applications.

Ultimately this is a major step in incorporating sense and avoid capabilities, and will provide UAVs with the ability to detect and avoid manned and other unmanned aircraft. This will also move the technology closer to a place where UAVs have the ability to safely operate beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS).

Draganfly is working with partners at uAvionix to incorporate their 1/2W Ping transceivers onto the Draganflyer Commander platform, and are excited to be involved in testing this leading edge technology.

“We are excited to be working with the team at uAvionix and test ADS-B on our platforms,” said Zenon Dragan, President of Draganfly, “We expect that all UAVs will require an ADS-B transceiver in the future and we’re pleased to be the first in Canada to test it out.”

“It has been a long road for us” Jeff Walker, uAvionix CTO, commented, and added “We have had to constantly innovate around the regulations to bring this technology to market. Thanks to the Draganfly team’s tireless efforts, a turning point in drone-aviation safety can be finally realized.”

About Draganfly Innovations Inc.
Draganfly Innovations Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Trace Intelligent Systems, is a recognized technology and industry leader within the commercial UAV industry. Its devices have helped establish the commercial market and adoption of multi-rotor helicopters for aerial imaging and public safety.
Further information on Draganfly Innovations can be found at www.draganfly.com

About uAvionix

  • The walkera scout x4 for sale offers an user interface for a 2nd remote transmitter, enabling an additional user to handle this video camera whilst the key user focuses upon the helicopter.

Flight Functionality

The Walkera Scout X4 FPV GPS Quadcopter often is one of the greatest hovering multirotors available. This is effective GPS quadcopter which often is foreseeable, simple and also steady to take off. The pitch, yaw besides roll settings are problem-free to make use of. We are not certain about the walkera scout x4 range is up to 1500m. Driven by APM firmware, the Scout X4 could perform automated lifts as well as various other moves which usually are loved by young customers.

A Few Walkera Scout X4 Review Concerns

Quadcopter flyers on several discussion boards have expressed issues regarding the responsiveness about Walkera consumer support. The cost of scout x4 walkera, although realistic with regards to their technological innovation as well as functions, is a substantial leap via 800-bucks limit of a few their most well-liked rivals such as the Dji Phantom Two Edition. The Walkera Global Positioning System unit program is actually beginning to display its actual age group, having ended up created with regard to the earlier era of drones.

Check This YouTube Video on Walkera Scout X4 Unboxing and Assembly

A lot more than just one flyer has revealed a problem due to the Universal serial bus slot arriving loosened via the most important panel, a severe quality-control problem which ought to be resolved simply by Walkera Technologists. This is frequently noted by X4 pilots making use of a GoPro to get the FPV perspective which at this time there is certainly a substantial lag period among whatever the quadcopter is performing as well as just what exactly the flyer is searching from his / her display screen. To fix this problem, most people are installing a different video camera like iLook+ to help function as the First-Person-View cam, that normally takes a few of the stress away from the GoPro as well as offers greater objective video clip.

Conclusion

The Walkera Scout X4 RTF FPV RC Quadcopter with Ground Station is certainly best of the series. Practical and intuitive, this quadcopter is essential even when the cost is too high. We hope you enjoyed our Walkera Scout X4 Review!

This might appears probably that as industry transmission as well as levels of competition raises, the cost of the Walkera Scout X4 ought to start to decrease. This might not really be astonishing to observe a cost decline following Phantom 3 Quadcopter launch. Anyways, we hope you liked our Walkera Scout X4 Review

Mini quads are fun all year round

Mini quad racing is a craze that has become popular the world over and is especially suitable for the UK where the poor weather can ground larger multicopters over much of the winter, whilst a mini is great for indoor venues such as multi-story car parks.  Meanwhile summer makes for thrilling races through woodland which evoke scenes from the Return of the Jedi speeder bike race.

There are a number of venues and events that take place dedicated to mini drone racing, check out popular groups on Facebook to find out more. For example:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/fpvuk

The smaller frame size of mini drones has helped their popularity as they are agile and can fly through small spaces and go around trees.

FPV (First Person View) technology adds to the buzz, with a screen or goggles you are placed into the action with a view direct from from the quadcopter.  Fatshark goggles are especially popular with FPV racers and you can check out our range here.

Quadcopters.co.uk stocks 250, 280 and 300 mini drones, the name relates to the distance in mm from motor to motor, so for example a 250 quadcopter has a distances of 250mm from motor to motor.  The ready to fly Nighthawk Pro 280 is especially popular as it has a clean, lightweight and integrated design.

Mini drones are so muchRichard Racing fun to fly that we even sponsored and competed in the the first ever UK National drone racing championships, the event was presented by Sonia Yasmin Ali and was a huge success.

We know quadcopter, drones, whatever you want to call them, upside down and inside out, so you can trust our advice and recommendations.

A Course designed to get you legal to operate a sUAS commercially

KBYF_RGB_LoRes

Calling all Hobbyists and those wanting to fly commercially (legally)

There are 2 million flights every day in the US. This doesn’t include recreational aircraft, military flights & those carrying freight. With the introduction of sUAS technology into the navigable airspace, the FAA has been concerned about the safety of all who use that airspace. That’s why this course was developed. It’s proficiency and award based through the FAA Wings Pilot Proficiency Program  (after its submission is approved) when you complete the course -AND- we all work together to make the airways safer.

Currently, the FAA requires all small Unmanned Aerial System operators to be licensed pilots (and have their 333 Exemption) in order to operate a UAS for commercial business. This means hundreds of thousands of people in various industries like (Photography, Real Estate, Construction, Land Surveying, Building Inspections, Video & Production companies) are frustrated & can’t legally fly until they met that pilot qualification, which could cost upwards of $15,000 to acquire!

Hundreds of thousands of hobbyists want to make money and are waiting for the FAA to decide their fate. Many didn’t wait and started operating without proper authorization only to be visited by the FAA via phone call or letter. Some who have already filed for their FAA 333 Exemption are still waiting for approval.

If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. You could pass this course, take the FAA Aeronautical Knowledge Test, get your TSA background check through the Transportation Security Administration and fly – legally, faster than getting your 333 exemption request approved – without having to become a licensed pilot!  The FAA wants you to be educated in flying your sUAS. The background check is under review and may not be required, but we left it in just in case.

These classes are specifically designed for sUAS operators, taking their experience and  course knowledge, to pass the FAA Aeronautical Education Test(*). The course will include the following (this is a partial list):

  • Aerodynamics of small Unmanned Systems
    • For Fixed-Wing and Quadcopter sUAS
  • Weather – on a micro level
    • From general circulation to weather at the surface
    • Wind-shear
    • Wake Turbulence
    • Thermal Inversions and Turbulence
  • Federal Aviation Regulation
    • Rules that pertain to sUAS integration
  • Understanding of Controlled Airspace
    • Types of Controlled Airspace
    • NOTAMS
    • Communicating to operate in Controlled Airspace
    • How to file NOTAMS online
  • Aeromedical Factors associated with flight operations
This is just a partial list of the course content.

So whether you are only operating as a hobbyist or for commercial purposes, this course will prepare you to pass the FAA Aeronautical Knowledge Test which will be mandatory and MUST be made available no later than 6 months after the President signs the FAA Modernization and Reform Act into law. The goal of this course is for you to be knowledgeable in FAA rules and regulations associated with operating a small Unmanned Aerial System. While there is no age limit to take this course, to receive FAA certification for commercial sUAS operations, you’ll need to be at least 17 years old. You’ll need to maintain certification through continuing education classes every 2 years once you receive initial certification.

(*) Congress is mandating that this FAA Aeronautical Knowledge Test must be made available, electronically, within 180 days of the  FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012 (Public Law 112-95) goes into effect.

Greg MacMaster is a former State Representative, an FAA approved Wings Instructor, a licensed private pilot, College Instructor, Aviation Meteorologist and sUAS commercial pilot – FAA approved having flown hundreds of hours and thousands of flights and is committed to providing consumers and prospective business operators of unmanned aircraft systems the tools to know how to fly safely and responsibly before taking to the skies.

Course is under review for FAASTeam. We are working to have an automatic credit process in place with FAASafety.gov. So if you complete and pass this course that offers WINGS credit, you should receive automatic credit within 24 hours. Automatic credit occurs when you follow the procedure at the end of the course. You will have to use the same email address with this course as your registered www.FAASafety.gov account in order to receive credit. If you do not receive credit, you can either email your course certificate to Support@FAASafety.gov or contact your FAA Wings Instructor and request that they submit WINGS credit. The sUAS technology is slow to evolve within the FAA Wings program, so be patient while we work to produce a quality Wings program that is inclusive to all aircraft operations, including new technology.

droneSimPro Review – A Great Educational Drone Simulator

Since drones are starting to become an everyday fun activity we have seen a number of drone simulators pop up for online use. Today we wanted to do a review of the new simulator from droneSimPro. They are fairly early in the game with high hopes to really make this an educational tool to teach future drone and quadcopter pilots how to safely operate their machines. As any experienced pilot knows, crashes happen so if you can save yourself some money and do it on a simulator then it’s a win-win. Also, considering new regulations coming up requiring drone pilot training, we think this will become a must for all new pilots. So without further adieu, here is the droneSimPro Review – a Great Educational Drone Simulator!

Installation

Installation was pretty straight forward with this application. Simply choose your operating system and download the software. From there you actually have the option to demo the software and are currently allowed to fly with a DJI Phantom 2 Vision+ on their first level for the demo. droneSimPro Drone Simulator

If you want to go ahead and purchase a full license, you are simply emailed a serial number which you need to manually enter into the serial space for access to the entire program. (We had some issues copy and pasting it so make sure you manually type it out)

Graphical Interface

droneSimPro Review screenshot

Just for reference, these screenshots were taken on a MacBook Air which we know isn’t the best gaming rig in general. Overall the graphics were OK, definitely not HD or something you would find on Playstation or Xbox, but they did the trick for a computer drone simulator.

Controls

Controls on a laptop are up-down-left-right arrows for forward-back-side-side pitch. W-S-A-D are used for up-down-right rotate-left rotate. Basically this mirrors what you would be doing on the joy sticks of a real drone so I’d give it a thumbs up for that. Definitely takes some getting used to and is a different feel than joy sticks. You are currently able to plug in a USB game controller in order to simulate a real one which would work perfect. (See what it works with in the FAQ section on their website)

Feature Set

  • Accurate flight model of Phantom 2 Vision+
  • Drone and pilot views
  • Realistic scenarios
  • Warnings for loss of VLOS and altitude restrictions
  • Realistic lighting conditions
  • Windows and Mac compatible
  • High-end 3D graphics engine
  • Real geological features and terrain
  • USB game controller input

Drone Simulation Screenshots

Right now you only have the option to fly a DJI Phantom 2 Vision+ with FPV in the lower box. There are 3 current levels that are listed below:

droneSimPro Open Field

droneSimPro Obstacle Course

DronesimPro House Scene

Within each of the levels you can toggle between the FPV view or the view as if you were controlling the drone from the ground. I believe in this simulator that the FPV works much better as in some of the levels you can’t actually see the drone when you fly it a little ways away. Here are some screenshots of the levels while playing them.

Open Field:

DroneSimPro Drone Simulator

Obstacle Course:

droneSimPro Quadcopter Simulator

And then we toggle to the FPV view as the big view:

DronesimPro Quadcopter Simulator

DroneSimPro Drone Simulator Obstacle Course

House Scene:

DroneSimPro Scene

I like how they create probably the 3 most used scenarios – First time flight in an open field, trying FPV in an obstacle course, and taking pictures of house for real estate sales.

Another thing I noticed was it gave you a warning if you were flying above 400 feet. I really like this feature as it is important to instil drone safety and regulations for when you are actually flying the real thing.

Price

Currently the price is just $29.99. Purchase here.

Pros

  • Accurate flight model of Phantom 2 Vision+
  • Flight engine specifically written for drones
  • Drone and pilot views
  • Realistic scenarios
  • Warnings for loss of VLOS and altitude restrictions
  • Windows and Mac compatible
  • High-end 3D graphics engine
  • USB game controller input
  • All updates through 2016 free of charge
  • Price

Cons

  • Graphics leave something to be desired
  • A bit simplistic currently
  • No other options for drones at the moment
  • No ability to change the drones speed or reaction time currently

Final Take

This is a very decent learning tool and will continue to get better with time. If you look above, the pros definitely outweigh the cons. If you want to get into piloting drones or quadcopters then this is an easy and cheap way to get started. For educational purposes they really help you out and are also willing to create custom scenarios that can emulate your needs. Once you have tested out the simulator then we recommend you try out a mini drone (hint: Hubsan X4) before purchasing a larger drone for sale. Please leave comments and questions below!

Drones Use for Recreation and Sports

Drones Use for Recreation and Sports

Thompson Coburn stated in his article how it was challenging and difficult to get aerial-view images. Before drones were invented, people had to borrow helicopters, which were expensive, or use long ladders to capture aerial view photographs. Imagine climbing buildings just to get beautiful scenery. That’s tedious! Now, you can do these things with just a single click on the controller of your drone.

Undoubtedly, the invention of drones has brought about the increase in the number of companies manufacturing these flying robots. Quadcopters have provided easier ways to do things in a short time. Security forces such as the Police, Militia, and secret agents can now use drones to carry out various seemingly daunting tasks. Media practitioners in the media and journalism sector can cover live news and events within a short period with these UAVs. The agricultural sector, search and rescue team, environmentalists, geographical analysts, engineers are not left out either as they have benefitted from the uses of drones. According to Dummies, drone technology has revolutionized the way people do business, interact with business partners, and carry out several tasks.

We bet you don’t know that drones can be used in the sports and recreation sector. For sports lovers, fun enthusiasts and anyone who cares to know, we will discuss on how drones are useful in the sporting arenas and recreational centers, and how they can be used as speculators.

  • Useful to sports organizations: Drones are used by sports organizations to gather aerial images or videos of sports games. These sports organizations use these images and videos to give reviews and write their perspectives on sporting events. They also utilize these unmanned flying machines to shoot aerial views of sporting centers such as swimming pools, basketball courts, stadiums, football pitch and much more. During international sporting events such as world cup tournament, the Olympic Games, UEFA Champions League, quadcopters are used to cover such events. These robots offer clear footage of such events, thus making such events appealing to watch.
  • Useful to coaches: Team coaches have enjoyed the wonders of drones; they can now use drones to view the team’s formation on the pitch as well as for analyzing players. They are also wonderful devices for viewing spacing within a team’s formation or arrangements.
  • Useful to advertising and marketing organizations: Sports advertising agencies use drones to take pictures and shoot sports videos that can be used as promotional materials on their website. This helps promote sporting activities, create awareness, and inform sports fans of recent happenings or sports news.
  • Useful for recreational purposes: During vacations or tourism visits, drones are used for gathering beautiful photographs and video footage. The application of drones has improved how tourist sites or locations such as monuments and huge ancient buildings are viewed. These devices can be used in parks and fields; they are used to capture beautiful moments.

The Reason I Chose Draganfly

u-of-s-symposium-4

I recently attended the Inaugural Symposium for the Plant Phenotyping and Imaging Research Centre at the University of Saskatchewan. Their objectives for this Symposium include, “consolidating research teams while enhancing cross-disciplinary collaboration, working with our International Scientific Advisory Committee, and further building relationships with industry and stakeholder groups.” I spent two days visiting with PhD’s in almost every field from agronomics to computer science to economics and there is one thing that is very clear; teamwork.

u-of-s-symposium-5

The teamwork involved in a project such as this requires experts from all departments in order to make it a success. They are each performing specific research all around the world in different environments, using different equipment all working towards a similar goal. How does this apply to Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS’)?

“Working with Draganfly has been like an R&D partner, like an extension of this grant. They are real partners.”  – Steve Shirtliffe, PhD, Department of Plant Sciences

Projects are stronger working together. We are the super-professionals in this industry that spend all day talking about UAS’, regulations, applications, workflow, and best practices. If you want to develop a successful sustainable UAS program, you don’t just want to buy a UAS, you want a partner. So when you call, live-chat, or e-mail, we will provide you with information to enhance your understanding of the entire UAS ecosystem without the frustration of learning it all on your own. You have questions, Draganfly has answers.
